Why people join Bookclub 010

Connect with Rotterdammers

You’ll find all sorts of readers at our gatherings: people who’ve lived here forever, people who arrived last week, people who speak four languages and people who’d prefer not to speak at all. We sit, we read, and somehow that’s enough.

A chance to slow down

Once a week we put our phones away, open our books, and let the city noise fade into the background for an hour. Our gatherings offer a comforting space to unwind in silence. Just the quiet pleasure of falling into a story while other people do the same.

Events hosted with care

Our hosts know how to hold a space so you can relax, read and feel part of something cozy, yet quietly radical at the same time. They make sure the room settles into that familiar hush. No big speeches. No fuss. Just you and a good book.

What readers are saying

The silent book club at Pebbels cat cafe was right up my alley as a rather introverted person who is still looking to connect with other book lovers (the cats being a wonderful bonus). I feel so grateful to have been wholeheartedly welcomed into a community of many friendly, talented, and open minded individuals on such short notice."

I love that there's a little moment before and after reading to socialise and connect with the other Bookclubbers so we can share which books we are reading and make a little small talk. The hosts make me feel welcome and the vibes are always lovely and relaxed. Silent Bookclub is my favourite moment of the month!

The best part for me is the openness and diversity. There are no limits when it comes to language, age, or reading preferences. Everything is welcome, and everyone belongs. It’s a true safe haven for expats, introverted book lovers, and anyone driven by curiosity. You feel at home and welcomed, surrounded by kindred spirits from the most unexpected walks of life.

Bookclub 010 feels like a warm bath. What truly makes Bookclub 010 special is the combination of coziness, accessibility, and a shared love for literature. The atmosphere is warm and informal, and the community feels genuinely connected. Marjan, Yasmin, Simone, and the rest of the team guide everything with such care and heart that you immediately feel at home.

It's like combining two of my passions: reading books and connecting with lovely people. I am quite an introvert to be honest, but hosting silent bookclubs provides me the safety that allows my social bubbliness to thrive. Books are great companions, they feel safe, non-judgemental, intriguing and they hold us and our multiplicities gently..so I want to hold a similarly safe space for you to create a shared experience engaging in our beloved activity together: reading.

The Dark Academia Event was an amazing afternoon in style, with people showing up dressed up, and with workshops fitting the theme, like making your own journal cover, creating your own jewelry, and make blackout poetry with dark academia texts. To top it off for me personally; I got asked to write and perform a poem at the opening in the style of Edgar Allan Poe, which shows that the community is open to your own initiatives and talents and encourages to share them.
