You’ll find all sorts of readers at our gatherings: people who’ve lived here forever, people who arrived last week, people who speak four languages and people who’d prefer not to speak at all. We sit, we read, and somehow that’s enough.

Once a week we put our phones away, open our books, and let the city noise fade into the background for an hour. Our gatherings offer a comforting space to unwind in silence. Just the quiet pleasure of falling into a story while other people do the same.

Jane Austen XL
Books, beer, bonnets and a burst of creativity at Brewery Noordt. Who says Jane Austen only ever sipped tea? Our guests dressed up in their 18th Century best bringing the regency era to life.
Dark Academia XL
Donna Tartt, scary skulls, cool reading diaries, gloomy poetry. Oxbridge can rest, cause Rotterdam does Dark Academia best. Reading journals were made, poems were written, and Edgar Poe Allen might have made an appearance too.
Pop-Up at Garden of BIRD
Sunshine, deckchairs, a good book and good company. Who said silent reading should only be done inside? We bring reading outdoors in the heart of the city. What's not to like?

The English Bookclub in the theatre hall of Donner was a real highlight for me. Discussing The Secret History with an engaging guest speaker offered fresh insights, and it was lovely to share our own perspectives afterwards in a smaller group.

What a lovely afternoon hosting our very first event at Mevrouw Boon in Moordrecht! We began with quiet reading, wandered through the garden and ended the day watching the movie Emma together.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to your questions about our events, community, and more
Not at all. Whether you read once a week or once a year, you’re welcome. The club is about connection, with others and with yourself, not reading levels.
For Silent Reading events: bring any book you like. For English Bookclub sessions: we discuss a pre-selected book together, announced in advance.
Most events are bilingual-friendly, and you’re free to read in any language.
The English Bookclub sessions are fully in English, except mentioned otherwise due to guest speaker for instance. Silent Reading events are language-free by nature.
You arrive, find a cosy spot, say hello if you like, and then we read together in silence for about an hour. Afterward, there’s space to chat, share what you’re reading, or simply head home relaxed.
We try to choose locations that are accessible and comfortable for all. If you have specific accessibility needs, feel free to contact us and we’ll always do our best to support you.
